Callie's adoption fee has been generously sponsored by an admirer!
Personality: Callie is a quiet, calm and affectionate girl looking for the perfect home. She can be fearful of new people at first but when given time, space and treats, she will warm up. Callie is looking for a low-key home with one or two adults, no frequent visitors and no small children, where she can get all the love and attention that she craves. Callie enjoys walks in neighborhood followed by curling up at her humans feet for a little post-walk nap. Once she bonds with a person she can become a Velcro dog and Callie will protect her person from anything she perceives as a threat - strangers, squirrels, loud noises, etc. Callie will enjoy a home with experienced German Shepherd owners who understand her sensitivities and will work with managing her fearful behaviors using positive reinforcement techniques.
History: Callie came to us back in January with a litter of her puppies. Once she was done raising her puppies in foster home, she returned to HSSV and was soon adopted. She was returned 4 months later after showing many fear behaviors towards a young child and many visitors in home.
Dog Skills: Callie is a peaceful co-exister around other dogs and she prefers when other dogs leave her alone. She would do great as the only dog or with a male dog that will peacefully share their space with Callie and who won't take offense of her bossy behavior at times.
Cat Skills: Callie has shown breed traits and will chase cats, squirrels, birds and other small critters.
Leash Skills: Callie walks nicely on leash but will pull if she sees something she wants to chase (small critters, cats, bikes). It is best to use front-clip harness when walking her.
Medical: Callie has been diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or dental disease). This disease is extremely common in dogs and cats, especially as they age. This patient had a dental cleaning recently at HSSV. Teeth that were determined to be unhealthy were removed.
