Personality: Pedro is a special little guy looking for his second chance with someone who can meet his needs. He is deaf and has some neurological deficiencies that result in Pedro being sensitive to invasive handling. After he gains his confidence and once he knows you, he is the sweetest, cuddliest and silliest boy. For a 6 year old dog he is still very spunky, he loves to play and enjoys rough housing with resident dogs in his current foster home. After a long day he loves nothing more than falling asleep in his persons lap or burrowing himself under a blanket and falling asleep in a comfy dog bed. Pedro is highly recommended to a low key, adult only household with people who have experience, time and patience to make this little guy feel at home. In return Pedro will be your loyal friend, follow you everywhere and make you laugh with his silly antics.
History: Pedro came to us from another shelter with ruptured eardrum and need for some dental extractions. Once he healed up and wasn't in pain anymore, he started to blossom into a quirky little guy who has been getting everyone he meets fall in love with him.
Dog Skills: Pedro loves other dogs! In his current foster home Pedro is living with 4 small dogs and he is having time of his life. He loves to play, run around and rough house with two of the dogs that are more tolerant and have adjusted to his play style. He would highly benefit from going to a home with at least one small, playful and tolerant dog that he can bond with. He also does much better at being left alone when there is another dog with him.
Cat Skills: Pedro is around 3 adult cats in his current foster home and he isn't bothered by them. He chases one of the younger cats in play sometimes when he's in a playful mood.
Leash Skills: Pedro doesn't walk on leash yet. He is working on it but it's taking time. We believe that due to his neurological issues Pedro gets frightened when the leash is above his head so he prefers to walk on a front-clip harness where the leash is in front of him instead of being above him. Home with a direct access to a safe and secure yard would be highly recommended so he can continue learning to walk on leash and continue his potty training.
Medical: Pedro has neurological issues. He may wobble or tilt his head when he walks. Pedro is also recovering from a ruptured ear drum. Although Pedro is deaf, it has not stopped him from engaging with people and dogs. He continues to learn new things on a daily basis.
