What should your foster's bio say?
My name is Bella and I'm a 9 year old retriever mix who just loves to be loved. I have a very sweet personality and will latch onto my new owners quickly, following them everywhere and making sure they're safe. I want constant pets and affection and would love nothing more than a home with humans who can provide me with that. I'm pretty smart and can learn new tricks with a bit of persuasion (read: treats).
While I am generally pretty calm, I love to play and run outside so I'd love a new owner who has space for me to be active regularly and/or likes to go on longer walks, runs, or hikes - and maybe a dog playmate I can enjoy hanging out with.I don't like when my people leave me, so please be patient if I whine or bark when I'm left alone. It will take some time for me to get used to my new home.
What did you implement for house training? Do you think it's working? Bella was already really well house trained prior to coming to me. She learns boundaries quickly with a "no" or telling her to back up . She never had any issues with accidents or chewing things she wasn't supposed to.
Have you introduced them to a crate? If so, what kind of crate and what was their reaction? I did not use a crate, but it might be something to look into if you are leaving her in a house alone.
How many hours did you leave them home alone? What was their behavior like when left alone? Bella has some separation/anxiety issues that will need to be worked through. I left her alone for 2 hours max and only left her alone a couple of times during my time with her, but she tends to bark frequently when left home alone (she doesn't bark much normally) and may scratch a door or wall near a door in an attempt to follow you. She probably just needs some time to get used to any new schedule.
What is their behavior like with other animals? She wants to play with any new dog she walks by, and gets very excited, but won't bark at them unless they bark first. She's never shown any aggression towards other dogs. She also really likes to chase squirrels.
What is their behavior like with new people and/or children? : Bella loves new people as her favorite thing is to just be loved and get all kinds of pets. She gets excited but doesn't tend to jump on new people (she does sometimes jump on "her people" when she gets excited, but that's usually pretty gentle). I haven't seen how she interacts with children, but I imagine that she would just be the sweetest dog to have around kids with a little bit of training.
Is there anything else that you would like the new adopter to know about this dog, such as any special tricks or adorable traits? Since I've had her I've taught Bella how to shake. She has also picked up a habit of using her paws to get my attention when I've stopped petting her or she just wants some extra attention, which is adorable (she's very persistent).
