Shirley is part of our Diamond in the Ruff program and needs an appointment to be seen. Ready to meet her? Schedule an appointment
History: Shirley was transferred to HSSV from another shelter. She came to us ass a momma dog caring for her puppies.
Personality: Shirley is shy about approaching strangers, and may let out a few woofs to alert the world of the potential threat. However, once she gets to know a person she is very silly, wiggly, and interactive. She loves chasing stuffie toys around the yard and rolling around to scratch her back in the grass. She's a quick learner and will sit on cue, or "boop" your hand with her nose in exchange for yummy treats. Shirley does not appreciate being touched by people she doesn't know, but she is learning to enjoy neck and chest scritches from her closest human friends.
Dog Skills: Shirley likes to play with other dogs once she has met them multiple times. The very first time she meets a dog she can be a bit defensive, which is common for momma dogs.
She has several dogs she loves to play with here at the shelter, and when she's with them she is far more confident about trying new things and meeting new people. She could really benefit from a brave doggy role model in her forever home, so if you have a friendly pup and are willing to invest some time in building their relationship with Shirley, you might be her perfect match!
Cats Skills: Shirley tries to chase the community cats that live outside near the shelter, so she would need an extremely slow and careful introduction in order to live well with cats in a home environment.
Leash Skills: Shirley has made a lot of progress towards taking walks on leash! She was fearful of the leash at first, but now she regularly walks from her room to the dog park here at the shelter. Shirley will benefit from direct access to a secured yard while she continues to build confidence on leash.
